Sand Bay Holiday Village
We were driven to and from Sand Bay by Cathy Rodgers, whom we greatly thank.
The weekend didn’t start off well due to our accommodation being so cold – good job we took a hot water-bottle and a spare blanket. The heating was finally sorted out by Saturday afternoon.
Bands playing this weekend. Sunset Café Stompers, Baby Jools and the Jazzaholics, John Maddocks Jazzmen, Gambit Jazzmen, Dave Martin’s Jabbo Five, Savannah Jazz Band, and the Golden Eagle Jazz Band. A mighty fine line-up, and looking forward to Dave Martin’s Jabbo Five, a band we haven’t heard before.
Sunset Café Stompers – Line-up: Peter Middleton (tmb), Steve Graham (tpt), Charlie Hearnshaw (clt), Eddie Edwards (bjo), Peter Ward (bs), Mike Denham (pno), John Coad (dms) and Hamish Maxwell (vcls). Good music to start off the weekend with fine repartee from Mike Denham and rousing vocals from Hamish Maxwell. The Band play "Big Chief Battle Axe".
Baby Jools and the Jazzaholics – Line-up: Denny Illet snr, (tpt), Karl Hird (reeds), Mike Owen (tmb), Jim Swinnerton (bass), Brian Mellor (bjo), Jools Aldridge (dms). Plenty of hot stuff from this band with vocals from Mike Owen, Brian Mellor and Denny Illet. Here they play "Hotter Than That".
A surprise special guest appearance from Dorine de Witt wowed the audience. She sang “Why” beautifully.
