A Great Time and Great Jazz

Sunday 18th January 2015

Dennis Armstrong’s Bristol Blue Five plus Two: line-up – Dennis Armstrong (cnt), Tom Whittingham (tmb), Phil Wall (clt), Rachel Hayward (bjo/gtr), Philip Blandford (pno), Mike Lancaster (sousa), Peter Winterhart (dms). This band could not fail to please as it sounds as good as the original way back in the days of pioneering jazz. Playing such greats as “Flatfoot”,  “Come on and Stomp, Stomp, Stomp”, and “Sugarfoot Blues”. The sample you are about to hear is the rarely played “Two Deuces” written by Lil Hardin. Enjoy.

Savannah Jazz Band: line-up – Steve Graham (tpt/vcl), Roger Myerscough (clt/alto), Brian Ellis (tmb), Brian Mellor (bjo/gtr), Tony Pollitt (bs), John Meehan (dms/ldr). Steve Graham was depping for Bill Smith who was away in warmer climes enjoying a cruise. A dynamic band who always deliver good music, today being no exception. Just listen to their rendition of “Franklin Street Blues”.

The Rich Bennett Band: line-up: Russ Bennett (tmb), Richard Bennett (tpt), Karl Hird (clt/tnr), Dorine De Wit (bjo), Trefor (fingers) Williams (bs), Baby Jools (dms). It is nice to see a band with not only young musicians, but young musicians playing great jazz. They travel extensively in the UK and Europe, and are always enthusiastically received wherever they go.

Listen to their rendition of "Over The Waves".

Monday came all too soon, goodbyes to friends, the long trek home and back to the real world…..

.....then it’s Hemsby in March. Until then, it’s goodbye from Harvey, Evie, Me and Him,

and thank you to Pete Lay for such a wonderful time.
