Monday 3rd November to Friday 7th November.
This unexpected addition to the Jazz Festival calendar, organised by Pete Lay, the first November Jazz Parade, was, indeed a treat.
Monday 3rd
Our journey was uneventful – we never even got lost! The Arrival Procedure was smooth, our chalet was just about as far from the main facilities as it could be but it was OK. At least the rain held off whilst we carted our luggage from the car. During the week we would suffer the full gamut of torrential rain, thunder, lighting and flooding.
The programme, in order of appearance, consisted of the following bands. The Armstrong Oliver Band, Jon Penn with Guests, New Orleans Heat, Brian White’s King Jazz, Savannah Jazz Band, Golden Eagle Jazz Band, Gambit New Orleans All Stars and the Ken Colyer Legacy Band. Each band would be playing four sets each.
Following the sad news of Acker Bilk’s death, Pete Lay felt that it would be a fitting tribute for this Festival to be dedicated to him. Everyone agreed, all the bands played various tributes to him. Here is one by Alan Cresswell of the Golden Eagle Jazz Band. Stranger on the Shore.
