The Brolly Parade

Saturday 21st June.

An absolutely glorious day for the Brolly Parade. Not only was it very sunny it was also extremely hot. The “Mill Rythe Ramblers” and Brolly Marchers were brought to order and, when given the signal by Mr “Jimbo”, the band struck up and the parade sasheyed off.  They all did a tour around the park and, because the weather was so good, continued to play outside.

It was a really colourful scene, the ladies in their bright outfits and beautifully decorated brollies (24 in all), accompanied by their equally colourfully dressed partners. It certainly put everybody in a party mood for the next session at 11.30am, when we would be entertained by New Orleans Heat until 12.30pm and then Gambit Jazzmen until 1.45pm. Both of these bands played some great music, good vocals and solos.

The next session didn’t start until 4.00pm so Me and Him had a bit of a rest. Re-charge the camcorder and Our batteries!

There were two sessions between 4.00 and 6.00pm when we had the pleasure of listening, and  dancing to, the John Maddocks’ Jazzmen followed by the Savannah Jazz Band.

Suitably sated by dinner, refreshed and changed, Me and Him were ready for the evening session, beginning at 8.00pm. Two sets each from the Savannah Jazz Band and the John Maddocks’ Jazzmen. An absolute ace solo from Julian Aldridge, drummer (aka Baby Jools).

Me and Him were delighted by the music that both bands played, they were really swinging.
