Saturday 27th September

Saturday morning dawned bright, meaning The Brolly Parade could take place outside. The line-up of The Sensation Brass Band read like a Who’s Who of Jazz. Chris Tyle, Richard Church, Ray Colyer - trumpets, David Vickers, Mike Pointon - trombones, Gavin Lee, Roger Bird – reeds, Pete Smith – sousaphone, Peter Lay – bass drum, Bill Evans – snare drum. Lead by Grand Marshall, the lovely Val Chambers.

The Parade set off at a good pace, at least 24 brollies and also large number of followers. After a circuit of the site, we were treated to some lively music and dancing. It must have been good as passing cars stopped by the gates to enjoy the entertainment. Soon it was time for the parade to make its way into the Ballroom for the finale. Such a colourful spectacle thanks to the dedicated ladies of the Parade. Do take time to look at the photos on facebook, on the gallery and youtube. Who knows, you may just see yourself.

We had two further sessions from Gavin Lee’s New Orleans Jazz Band and New Orleans Heat and then Baby Jools and the Jazzaholics made their first appearance this afternoon, and played some really hot jazz. There is always plenty to dance to with this band and we were treated to some marvellous solos. Me and Him have never seen Jim Swinnerton (string bass) play before, by jove he’s good.

The Festival New Orleans All Stars also made their first appearance of the weekend this afternoon. Emil van Pelt (piano) stood in for Ray Smith who could not be with us. (See above). Me and Him reckon that Eric Webster (banjo) brought his own fan club with him!! And why not.

After dinner, there were a further session from Baby Jools and the Jazzaholics and

the Festival New Orleans All Stars.
