Good journey, no traffic holdups. Stopped for a picnic lunch and arrived about 2.00pm.
The bands playing during this weekend are: New Orleans Heat, Gavin Lee’s New Orleans Jazz Band, Smith/Pointon New Orleans Stompers, Baby Jools and the Jazzaholics, Festival New Orleans All Stars, Brian White’s King Jazz, Colin Kingwell’s Jazz Bandits and Sammy Rimington’s International Jazz Band.
New Orleans Heat started the weekend off, with the first of their three sessions this weekend and a different line-up. Barry Grummett announced a change of personnel. Tony Peatman (banjo), Mike Taylor (trombone) and Gwyn Lewis (cornet) had left the band and been replaced by David Vickers (trombone), Alan Birkenhead (banjo) and Richard Church (trumpet). They played plenty of foot tapping music which the dancers just couldn’t resist.
Gavin Lee’s New Orleans Jazz Band started the evening session in great style. We were treated to some wonderful music, and a couple of solos from that brilliant pianist Ian Wynne, he can sing also.
Smith/Pointon New Orleans Stompers. Ray Smith (piano co-leader) had to pull out due to a serious knee infection and was advised by his Doctor not to fly. At very short notice, Ian Wynne stepped in for him. So for this weekend it was the Pointon New Orleans Stompers.
And didn’t they just stomp!!
