Me and Him
Me and Him
Due to Me’s accident (fractured spine) Him and Me couldn’t attend Gunton Hall Jazz Break. Although still not fit enough to drive, were determined to get to Hemsby by hook or by crook. Took a taxi in the end. Not much more expensive than the train, infinitely more comfortable and quicker. It was money well spent considering the fantastic weekend of music that we enjoyed.
Bands playing this weekend: Andrew Hall’s Memories of New Orleans, John Shillito Band, Festival New Orleans All Stars, Doc Houlind’s Revival Jazz Band, Dave Rae’s Levee Ramblers, Golden Eagle Jazz Band, Gambit Jazzmen. If that line-up doesn’t whet your appetite nothing will.
Mike Pointon was MC for the weekend and introduced the first band.
Andrew Hall’s Memories of New Orleans: Brian Boles (tpt/vcls), Roger Bird (clt/tnr/vcls), Steve Peters (bs), Andrew Hall (pno), Ray Bowden (dms). They played three sets over the weekend. Inspired vocals from Brian Boles, well-chosen solos and good ensemble.
John Shillito Band: John Shillito (tpt/vcls),John Wurr (clt/alto/bar), Bobby Fox (tmb), Pete Furnish (bs), Simon Banks (pno), Derek Maughan (dms). Some very good solos from this band during ensemble numbers. Our choice to share with you is “Clarinet Marmalade”. As an added treat appreciate Simon Banks playing a boogie selection.
Festival New Orleans All Stars: Mike Pointon (tmb/ldr), Roger Myerscough (clt/alto), Ken Sims (cnt), Colin Bowden (dms), Ray Smith (pno), Eric Webster (bjo), John Arthy (bs).
