Hemsby Autumn Jazz Parade October 2016

Baby Jools and the Jazzaholics – Line-up: Denny Ilett, snr, (tpt), Karl Hird (clt/tnr), Mike Owen (tmb), Brian Mellor (bjo/gtr), Jim Swinnerton (bass), Baby Jools (ldr/dms). Gave a very lively performance, plenty of hot jazz as only they know how, that certainly pleased the dancers. It was a great pleasure to see Karl Hird back playing again. He played superbly and his rendition of St Phillips Street Breakdown was one of the best we’d ever heard. He got a well-deserved standing ovation. We will share with you "Climax Rag" from the band and also "St Phillips Street Breakdown" played by Karl Hird.

Ray Smith Entertains – This was the epitome of a pianist at one with his instrument. Ragtime, Stride and Blues – a masterclass.

One of the best half hours I’ve ever spent – more please.

Brolly Parade – Sensation Brass Band – Dave Stradwick/Ray Colyer/Richard Church (tpts), Mike Pointon/Iain McAulay/Dave Vickers (tbms), Bernard Stutt/Roger Bird (reeds), Pete Clancy (sousa), Pete Lay (bs dms), Colin Bushell (sn dm). The Parade, lead by Val Chambers, was held outdoors, the sun was shining. With over 30 brollies and more than 40 followers it was a very Grand Parade. Val did a splendid job and everyone had a good time.

On the Sunday evening there was a Prize Raffle – with the proceeds being donated to the Russell Bennett Memorial Fund. Over £900 was raised and the Trustees would like to thank everyone who donated prizes and bought tickets.

We had an absolutely wonderful weekend and would like to thank all of the musicians who played such beautiful music and to Pete and Heather Lay who made the whole weekend possible. Thank you.
