Me and Him
Me and Him
30th September 2016 - 3rd October 2016
It was an easy drive to Hemsby and in glorious weather.
This would be the first occasion that the Jazz Festival was held in the new “Harlequin” Ballroom and we were a bit sceptical. We are very happy to say that our fears were totally unfounded. There is plenty of seating available and the dance floor got the “thumbs” up from the dancers.
The Bar area is to one side, again with plenty of seating and a very large video projection screen so no need to miss anything whilst getting a drink or having a chat.
Now to the entertainment – bands playing this weekend in order of appearance:
Dave Stradwick’s Sussex Jazz Kings, New Orleans Heat, Gambit Jazzmen, Sammy Rimington’s International Jazz Band, Savannah Jazz Band, Doc Houlind’s Revival Jazz Band, Festival New Orleans All Stars, Baby Jools and the Jazzaholics and a piano interlude by Ray Smith, with Mike Pointon as MC – what a jazzfest we were in for.
Dave Stradwick’s Sussex Jazz Kings - Line-up: Dave Stradwick (cnt/vcls), Bernard Stutt (clt), Iain McAulay (tmb), Peter Clancy (bs), Kevin Scott (bjo), Pete Lay (dms). A good start to the weekend with plenty of hot jazz and dancing. Peter Clancy’s rendition of “I get the Blues when it Rains” really energised the audience. We will, however, share with you "One Sweet Letter From You".
New Orleans Heat – Line-up: Richard Church (tpt), Roger Bird (clt/tnr), Dave Vickers (tmb), Harry Slater (bass), Alan Birkenhead (bjo), Barry Grummett (ldr/piano), Colin Bushell (dms). Best performance for a while – very lively – enjoyed by all. Good dancing and listening. Front line are well supported by the rhythm section. We give you "Last Night On The Back Porch".
