Me and Him
Me and Him
Malc Hurrell’s Jazz Conscripts: Line-up: Malc Hurrell (bjo/ldr), Denny Ilett Snr (tpt), Hugh Roberts (clt),
Tom Whittingham (tmb), Hugh Crozier (pno), Howard Worthington (bass), Malc Murphy (dms). Really going with a swing, good solos and an ensemble to be proud of. Nice number that we hope you will enjoy- they play "Hiawatha Rag"
Three bands to go, how much more of this fantastic music can we all take?
Brian Carrick’s Algiers Stompers: Line-up: Brian Carrick (clt/ldr), Peter Wright (tpt), Chas Hudson (tmb), Malc Hurrell (bjo), Chris Perrin (pno), Annie Hawkins (bass), Ray Bowden (dms). Some good jazz, with a sprinkling of modern songs. Plenty of vocals from Brian and some very good solos from the rest of the ensemble. Our choice to share is "Deep Bayou Blues".
Jools and the Jazzaholics: Line-up: Denny Ilett (tpt), Mike Owen (tmb), Roger Bird (clt), Jim Swinnerton (bass), Brian Mellor (bjo), Jools Aldridge (dms/ldr). One wonders if this band can get any better, they hit the stage running and never stop. The energy and enthusiasm they put into their music is amazing, tied up nicely by front-man Mike Owen. Spoilt for choice on this one, so hope you enjoy "Joe Avery's Piece".
New Orleans Heat: Line-up: Richard Church (tpt), Dave Vickers (tmb), Roger Bird (clt), Barry Grummett (pno/ldr), Harry Slater (bass), Alan Birkenhead (bjo), Colin Bushell (dms). A well- travelled, toe-tapping band, serving up some golden oldies of jazz. Good solos from all and great commarderie between musicians. Our choice is "Hindustani"
Brolly Parade Band: Dave Vickers (tmb), Gavin Lee (clt), Dave Rae (Bass dm). Pete Smith (sousa),
Malc Murphy (dm), Richard Church (tpt), Kenny Milne (tpt), Jim Blenkin (tmb).
As Dave Brennan was unwell, Heather Balon Lay stepped in as MC for the weekend, and what a great job
she did too. Ben Roofe and Pete Lay also did a grand job as sound technicians.
We noticed lots of changes and upgrades to the site. Those of you who know it well will be either
happy or sad to learn that the “sheds” have been demolished.
Our journey home was uneventful – we never even got lost!
