Gunton Hall Jazz Festival

We arrived about 1.00pm following an easy journey in lovely weather.  After checking in and unpacking (had a very nice chalet) we made our way to the Cabaret Bar where we met up with friends for a natter and a drink.

There are six bands playing this weekend, Brian Carrick’s Algiers Stompers, Gambit Jazzmen, John Maddocks Jazzmen, Savannah Jazz Band, New Orleans Heat and Baby Jools and the Jazzaholics.

The weekend started with Brian Carrick’s Algiers Stompers: Line-up: Brian Carrick (reeds), Peter Wright (tpt), Chas Hudson (tmb), Trefor Williams (bass), Mac MacDonald (bjo), Andrew Hall (pno), Ray Bowden (dms). During their three sessions we were treated to a wonderful selection of music. The front line supported by the excellent rhythm section. All very much appreciated by the audience. Here they play "Why Don't You Go Down To New Orleans".

Gambit Jazzmen: Line-up: Alan Gresty (cnt/vcls), John Maddocks (reeds/vcls), Barry Weston (tmb), Roger Link (bass), Andy Maynard (bjo/gtr), Pete Lay (ldr/dms/vcls). This is a popular band who go down very well with dancers and listeners alike.  A good selection of tunes of which we have chosen "Coquette My Pretty Coquette".

John Maddocks Jazzmen: Line-up: Peter Wilkinson (tpt), John Maddocks (reeds), Chris Gower (tmb), John Fellows (bass), Andy Maynard (bjo), Colin Martin (pno), Julian Aldridge (dms). A different rhythm section for this gig, by golly they proved their worth with their matchless performance.  The band played to its usual high standard. Very much appreciated by the audience. We have chosen "Happy Feet".
